Just read about Andy retiring after 46 yrs.He had a good innings and seen many high and low points in the clubs history.Andy along with Campbell and Bob Hutchison who started playing in 1947 are by far the longest serving players in the clubs 90yr old history.I am sure you will still see him at the home games. It is a pity the rules about umpires changed or he could have been the 21st century's version of Willie Alexander who was an old ex player who played before the war then decided to umpire after the club restarted. On the day's he appeared he gave the player's a team talk on how he wanted them to play although he only saw them about 8 times a year then gave the bowler's at that time Dave Cook,Bert Milne,Bruce Irvine,Martin mcgorum,Jimmy Hunter and Bob Hutchison some advice by telling them you hit the pad's and let me do the rest.So you can see he was a great boon to the club in home games. In fact it had been known for Willie to appeal himself as well as the team before he put the finger up which for some reason did not go down to well with the opposition. So Andy could have been as valuable to the club today as Willie was then.It is amazing that by just writing this the memories that come flooding back about the club's history and the player's who played during my time with club 1956-83 so you might have to watch this space.
